the relationship between online text and spoken language is that both mean the same thing its just that one is easier to read then the other. when children or teenagers use text speech(textism) and sometimes the text can be unclear on just unreadable. when adults text some use textism while others use formal language. the style of the text can be chatty of just straight forward getting to the point. An example of my texts just being plain would be this.” On train. No hwk. Bye” and this is an example of me being chatty” r u gonna b on the train. Did u see the football game. I will text you the score l8r.” As you can see there is a clear change of formal language when i am talking to my mum and when i am talking to my friend. When i am talking to my mum i am more formal and less chatty. The reason i think i do this is because when you talk to your mum you are less likely to use textism because your mum is more likely to not understand what you are saying. My friend who was using textism is more likely to understand because he is a ‘digital native’ while my mum is a ‘digital immigrant’. the difference between a digital immigrant and a digital native is that a digital immigrant is someone who was alive before textism and i-pads and laptops and touch screen phones. a digital immigrant is more likely to not understand textism and will be very confused and stressed around new technology, while a digital native is someone who grew up around technology. i am a digital native because i am someone who grew up in the rise of technology. the reason that i have included this in this essay is because this has an affect on how the language is different because digital natives understand text slang. this is basically how people text now. the way how people talk is utterly different except for the few kids that talk how they text. for example some say “totes” instead of totally. this may be because the way they text may be effecting how they talk. moving aside from that when most teenagers talk they use slang such as ‘fame’. when teenagers text they use textism and teenager talk using slang. when adults text they use formal language and when they talk adults use formal language as well. this is interesting because if adults use formal language for text and for talk, then why do teenagers use two different forms language to speak to another person? what i think to the question i have proposed would be that we are in an age of technology and that we are picking up the way that few started to now having used all over the world. because we are teenagers we
