“Sometimes there are demands for more homework, as a part of a drive for higher standards”

The sentence structure is relativity long and is split up into two separate simple sentences. The grammar is simple with only a comma.

“At other times there are calls for less homework to be set”

This sentence is the complete opposite to the first one as it is a complaint for less homework not more. This is another simple sentence with no grammar.

“American studies report the amount of homework being set for younger students doubling over the past twenty-five years or so, although some doubt these findings”

This sentence talks about homework doubling over the past twenty-five years but then the author brings in some views within the public. This brings a balanced view so you do not change your mind straight away. This is a long sentence and not a simple sentence unlike the others. Like the second one it has a comma to divide the sentence up

I disagree that homework should be banned as it helps you to be organised and reliable and you have remember when it is due. It also is like a revision sheet as it is normally about your class work. It keeps your maths, English or another subject work fresh in your mind so you can start where you left off. It also increases your work as you can learn from the questions and even a mistake. How can you increase your coding skills in ICT? By homework. Homework can also test you and keeps your brain active. It can also prepare you for GCSE exams.

Homework will also help you learn new words and increase your vocabulary. Homework will help your spelling and punctuation as you will do tasks like circle the missing grammar or put in the correct grammar. It also will improve your handwriting with writing tasks and essays. Homework will also increase your reading age and your writing speed by reading an extract and doing work on it. These will prepare you for end of year tests. Also homework applies what you already know, and can show any weaknesses and what you need to improve on. It will also increase your abilities to work on your own and use you’re initiative.

Homework during the holidays keeps your brain active and the subject fresh in your mind. Homework will give the teacher an idea on how the class is doing so the teacher knows if they should go over previous subjects or increase or decrease the subject level.
